The Asian Society of International Law (the “Society”) expresses its deepest solidarity with all civilians affected by the ongoing armed conflict in West Asia, including current and former members of its Executive Council and the Society’s broader membership.
The Society is profoundly saddened by the suffering experienced by civilians in this conflict and remains gravely concerned about the war’s potentially long-lasting impact on the region and the world. As an organization dedicated to promoting awareness of and respect for international law in Asia, we call upon all parties to the conflict to observe their international legal obligations to protect civilians, especially under international humanitarian law and applicable human rights law. The Society hopes for an immediate cessation of violence and for prompt and meaningful steps to be taken towards sustainable and lasting peace, in accordance with international law, including the UN Charter.
